Welcome to Threadbare & Beloved

Hi, friends, and welcome! The days are finally getting cooler, my yarn basket is overflowing, and it feels like the perfect time to start something new. So here it is: my very first post on Threadbare & Beloved.

How I got started

I learned to knit from my aunt when I was a girl. She noticed I had trouble sitting still whenever we were out in public or waiting in line, so she used that time to grab my attention and teach me to knit. I’ve been knitting ever since, although my first few projects were some of the ugliest scarves ever made.

I picked up crochet a few years later and got completely hooked on thread crochet, making doilies along with one truly hideous variegated blanket.

Quilting is my newest love. I learned in August 2025, and since then I’ve made several lap quilts and pieced the tops for two queen-size quilts.

These days I knit, crochet and quilt, and I can’t imagine my evenings without a project in my hands.

What’s in my lap right now

Most of what I make is for the people I love, and this fall is no exception. I’m finishing a bear paw quilt for my husband, and I’ve cast on a Christmas sweater for my son. There’s also a secret gift on my needles that I can’t say much about yet!

I’ll share more about each of these soon, including the honest truth about free motion quilting.

What’s coming next

I’m also working on my very first patterns, and one of them is that secret quick knit. If it turns out the way I hope, I’ll write it up so you can make one too. Stay tuned!

Now I’d love to hear from you. What’s in your lap this fall? Tell me in the comments!
